Research and Development Manager

Proforce Limited, a Nigerian defence and automotive manufacturing company established in 2008, is a leading provider of armoured vehicles and personal protection solutions across Africa. The company is seeking an experienced Research and Development Manager to drive innovation, enhance vehicle performance, and lead the development of cutting-edge automotive solutions that align with global industry standards.

Lead and manage end-to-end research and development initiatives from concept to production

Oversee the design, testing, and validation of vehicle systems and components

Research, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing methods

Work closely with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to ensure alignment with organisational goals

Supervise prototype development and coordinate performance and durability testing

Analyse industry trends, technological advancements, and competitor activities to inform R&D direction

Prepare detailed technical reports, project updates, and presentations for senior management

Manage R&D budgets, project timelines, and resource allocation efficiently

Ensure all R&D activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards

Provide mentorship, training, and technical guidance to R&D team members

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline

Master’s degree will be an added advantage

Professional certifications in automotive technology, R&D, or project management are desirable

Minimum of 5 to 8 years hands-on experience in automotive research and development

At least 3 years experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity

Strong technical understanding of automotive systems and manufacturing operations

Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD

Excellent leadership, project coordination, and organisational skills

Innovative and analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities

Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills

Solid knowledge of automotive testing, validation, and compliance procedures
