Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Lecturer will be expected to:
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Political Science and related areas
- Coordinate courses and contribute to curriculum development in line with NUC BMAS
- Conduct independent and collaborative research and publish in reputable local and international journals
- Supervise undergraduate projects and postgraduate theses/dissertations
- Mentor junior academic staff and support departmental academic growth
- Participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees
- Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, and curriculum review exercises
- Engage in community service, policy advocacy, and professional activities relevant to Political Science
- Perform any other academic duties assigned by the Head of Department or University Management
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A PhD in Political Science or a closely related discipline from a recognized university
- Evidence of specialization in areas such as Comparative Politics, International Relations, Public Administration, Political Theory, Public Policy, or Development Studies
- At least three (3) years post-PhD teaching and research experience in a university or comparable institution
- A minimum of six (6) scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., Nigerian Political Science Association – NPSA) will be an added advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong teaching, research, and curriculum development skills
- Excellent analytical, writing, and oral communication abilities
- Proven ability to supervise students and mentor junior academics
- Proficiency in ICT tools, research databases, and e-learning platforms
- Ability to contribute to policy-relevant research and community engagement
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills
- High level of academic integrity, professionalism, and teamwork
