JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mass Communication and related areas
- Develop and update course outlines in line with NUC Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS)
- Conduct independent and collaborative research and publish in reputable local and international journals
- Supervise undergraduate projects and postgraduate theses/dissertations
- Participate actively in departmental, faculty, and university committees
- Mentor junior academic staff and support departmental growth
- Participate in accreditation, quality assurance, and curriculum review exercises
- Engage in community service and professional activities relevant to the discipline
- Perform any other academic duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department or University Management
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following:
- A PhD in Mass Communication or a closely related discipline from a recognized university
- Evidence of specialization in areas such as Journalism, Broadcasting, Public Relations, Advertising, Development Communication, or New Media Studies
- At least three (3) years post-PhD teaching and research experience in a university or comparable institution
- A minimum of six (6) scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals, with evidence of continuous research output
- Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., NIPR, NUJ, APCON) will be an added advantage
